Extra Miles

One of my colleague Sid hired a Sumo for a day picnic with his friends. The taxi charge was per KM based. Sid was sitting in front. Nothing to do, he started seeing the mile stones and then started comparing the mile stones with the milometer in the sumo. After some time he found out that the milometer is running faster than the milestones.

When they reached the destination, Sid realized that the tyres of Sumo was smaller than compared to other Sumo's parked nearby. Now he know what's the reason - the milometer calculates the distance on the basis of RPM and since the tyres are small the RPM will be higher than for normal tyre and so the milometer will show higher distance covered. And with higer distance covered, the driver can ask for more money. He argued with this and the driver agreed to charge for the actual distance. But if didn't had noticed this, then they would have already given higer charge to the driver.

So next time when you hire a vehicle for a trip outside and feel something unusual with the milometer - check the tyres.
